The atmospheric boundary layer (ABL) is affected by conditions at the land-surface through surface energy fluxes. Soil moisture affects relative partitioning of energy into sensible and latent heat fluxes, and hence heating and cooling of air near the land-surface. Here, these effects have been investigated for flat terrain, but have not been thoroughly explored in complex terrain.
