The project will develop, implement and demonstrate a production-feasible, electrically actuated cylinder deactivation valvetrain for internal combustion engines. This technology will make it easier for OEMs to deploy Dynamic Skip Fire (DSF) on their engines without the need for implementing complicated hydraulic circuits into their engine cylinder heads. Additionally, it will make it possible to deactivate cylinders over a wider range of engine operation to maximize fuel economy. The project is expected to enable the realization of an 8% to 10% fuel economy improvement, above stock operation in many 4-cylinder engine applications, while maintaining production-level NVH targets and emission standards.<

Electrical actuation produces fast and consistent switching which avoids the hydraulic cylinder deactivation system response dependence on engine oil pressure and temperature. This technology will be demonstrated on a 4-cylinder turbocharged gasoline direct injection engine./p>

Overall the project proceeded well. No major changes to the overall scope and timing occurred. The tasks for which the project was extended were able to be completed.<
